Legacy Planning presented by CFEE
December 3, 2025 (10:00 AM - 11:30 AM) (CST)
Description
Legacy planning goes beyond drafting a will; it’s about ensuring your assets are handled according to your wishes and reducing stress for loved ones. The workshop will demystify powers of attorney—legal documents that let someone you trust manage your finances if you become unable to. We’ll explain the differences between your POA for health and wealth, and your executor, and where the powers of each begin and end. Participants will learn why choosing a trustworthy attorney and understanding provincial rules is crucial to protecting their interests. We’ll then cover wills, trusts, and philanthropy. Without a valid will, provincial law—not you—decides who receives your estate. We’ll discuss who can make a will, options for drafting one (DIY kits vs. hiring a lawyer) and the importance of naming an executor who understands your wishes. Finally, we’ll stress the importance of reviewing documents regularly, discussing your plans with your family and advisors, and keeping paperwork accessible so your legacy unfolds smoothly rather than chaotically. This seminar is presented by by the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE).Images
